Teeth Whitening with Zoom!™ Teeth Whitening Systems
Teeth whitening is a simple cosmetic dentistry treatment that can make a world of difference in your smile. Coffee, tea, caramel colored beverages, tobacco, and time can cause teeth to lose their pearly white color. Teeth whitening is the perfect antidote to discolored teeth.
Dr. Guelpa offers his patients both in-office teeth whitening procedures and take-home treatments with one of the most effective products on the market, Zoom!
The Zoom!™ In-Office Whitening System is easy and painless. Once the Zoom!™ Whitening Gel (a hydrogen peroxide-based bleach) is carefully applied to your teeth, a special Zoom!™ Whitening Lamp is used to activate the gel, allowing it to release oxygen into the teeth. The oxygen actually bleaches away stains without affecting the structure of the teeth, and typically makes teeth six to ten shades whiter than before the treatment. Dr. Guelpa usually follows up this one-hour long procedure with a five-minute fluoride treatment.
For those who prefer to whiten their teeth at home on their own time, Dr. Guelpa recommends the Zoom!™ Take Home System. After quickly taking a mold of your teeth, Dr. Guelpa will provide you with trays and Zoom!™ Day White or Night White products. Patients generally wear the Night White for six to eight hours while they sleep or the Day White for about an hour during the day. Zoom!™ whitens teeth about six shades with approximately three applications. Individual results vary.
Whether you choose the Zoom! In-Office or Take Home Whitening System, the result is brighter, whiter teeth and a rejuvenated smile! Contact Dr. Guelpa to get started today.
Bonding and Tooth-Colored Fillings
Bonding is a cosmetic dentistry procedure that utilizes an acrylic composite resin to repair discolored, chipped, or cracked teeth, to fill in gaps between teeth, or as an alternative to silver amalgam fillings.
Bonding procedures generally take between a half-hour and an hour to complete in a single office visit. Dr. Guelpa will match the composite resin to the color of your teeth and apply it so that it blends in with your teeth for a natural look. After hardening the resin with a high intensity light, Dr. Guelpa will polish the tooth so that it resembles the other teeth.
Dr. Guelpa also uses composite resin in place of mercury amalgam fillings. Amalgam restorations, while still used, can weaken your tooth and are generally unattractive. When necessary, or desired by the patient, Dr. Guelpa removes amalgam fillings safely, and replaces them with composite bonding.
Porcelain veneers are an excellent way of correcting stained, chipped, and even crooked teeth. Made of a thin, yet sturdy, ceramic material, porcelain veneers are a wonderful substitute for traditional dental crowns. And, because they are thin and made to fit right over your teeth, they look and feel completely natural.
Once you and Dr. Guelpa have determined that porcelain veneers are appropriate for your teeth, a minimal fingernail thickness of each tooth is filed away to create space for the porcelain. An impression of your teeth is then taken and sent to one of the finest ceramic dental laboratories in the country. About two weeks later, Dr. Guelpa will clean your teeth and bond the veneers with acrylic that he will harden with a blue light.
Porcelain veneers are often an integral component of a full smile makeover. For more information, or to find out if porcelain veneers are for you, contact Dr. Guelpa's practice today!
A crown, often referred to as a cap, is a laboratory-made restoration for a badly damaged or decayed tooth. A crown is used when a simple filling cannot return a tooth to use. Crowns also form part of bridges that can span the space of a missing tooth or fill a gap of a tooth that never came in. In addition to adding strength to a weakened tooth, ceramic crowns can also conceal misshapen or discolored teeth.
Before placing the crown on your tooth, Dr. Guelpa will prepare the tooth and make an impression of it and those surrounding it. He will then send the impression to one of the best dental laboratories in country. While your crown is being created, he will place a temporary crown on the tooth. When the final crown is ready, Dr. Guelpa will replace the temporary crown with it.
Some smile makeovers require filling in gaps left by missing teeth. Bridges are one way of doing just that. A bridge consists of ceramic replacement teeth connected between porcelain crowns that fit over existing teeth to hold it in place. Bridges are a good, relatively simple way to raise the structural and aesthetic integrity of your smile.
Dental implants are an excellent way to address the issue of missing teeth. They are extremely functional as well as natural looking and feeling. In addition, implants help preserve the integrity of surrounding teeth since they stand alone and therefore do not require the support of an adjacent crown.
Dental implants are small (usually titanium) posts surgically placed in the jawbone where they anchor and act as a replacement tooth root. Once the implant is placed and heals in the jaw, Dr. Guelpa restores the titanium post with a crown that functions and appears as a natural tooth.
Implants can also be used to stabilize or hold partial or full dentures. Used in this way, they can give denture wearers confidence and function they thought were long gone.
Amalgam, silver and mercury fillings were ground-breaking technology at the time of the American Civil War. You do not have to settle for antiquated technology or unsightly black crown margins anymore.
